Where should we go?

Since we have a little more money now that I'm working, we'll be able to take a nice big trip once in a while. I'm hoping to be able to take a two-week trip next summer, but I'm not sure where we should go. I'm still afraid of flying (we haven't been on a plane since August, 2001) which I know rationally is ridiculous. But anyway, vote in my poll and tell us where we should go! My kids will be 8 and almost 12 next summer, and I don't like the heat. We're also not big on theme-park type things but I wouldn't rule them out completely; we do like pretty scenery and beaches and water. Oh, our starting point is Maryland. Comments welcomed.

Really, I can't decide between the Pacific Northwest and California.

LA/San Diego! San Diego has an awesome zoo, and you could take the kids to Santa Monica and Venice Beach for the scenery and all the cool stuff you can buy there. Hollywood Blvd. is also fun. I didn't do any amusement park stuff while I was there; I'm not big on parks (or super-touristy things in general), either.

I've never been to Vancouver, but it would also be a great place to visit, I think. I'd like to go sometime.

I know, my husband and I have been to SoCal like 3 times, but before we had kids and we did all the things you mentioned and had so much fun!

I'm dying to go west but I'm afraid I'm going to chicken out re: flying. (It's more the hassle factor than being afraid something's going to happen.)
