vertigo66: (Teen Wolf - Derek 2)
I enjoyed reading this post about how the male and female characters are depicted on Teen Wolf:

Scott, Derek, and Stiles are clearly the most well-rounded and psychologically plausible characters on the show. Though fandom has devoted a huge amount of time and energy to fleshing out the various ways their childhood traumas have impacted them as almost-adults, all this work derives from clearly established patterns and behaviors that the characters exhibit on the show. Scott, whose father abandoned him, has a lot of trouble with male authority; Stiles, whose mother died, is obsessive about protecting the people he still has with him; Derek, whose actions indirectly led to the death of his entire family, is a hot mess of self-loathing and misplaced aggression and a seriously pathetic (but compelling!) desire for somebody (ANYBODY) to like him. The show is meant to be entertaining, not unremittingly miserable, so the majority of its running time is devoted to action, but the plot generally has its foundation in the difficulty teenagers have in separating from their parents and becoming their own people. All three of these characters (Derek Hale may be in his twenties, but he is definitely suffering from a serious case of arrested development) reflect this in different and compelling ways.

The post then goes on to talk about how the female characters aren't nearly as well developed. I agree. I also didn't think season 2 of Teen Wolf was as good as the first season. I almost always enjoyed the show, but what they did with Allison in the 2nd season seemed to come out of nowhere and really affected my enjoyment of the show. How is Allison as a character supposed to come back from what she did? I don't even know how she can become a sympathetic character again. And the Gerard and Victoria stuff was kind of a mess. Who was in charge again? It wasn't the women!

This weekend, tumblr is flailing with the news that for season 3, Possible spoilers )

Right now I'm hoping to see a couple of things in the new season--Derek learning how to trust again (I kind of have a thing for Derek, all right? I've had it since episode two) and MOAR COACH FINSTOCK!

vertigo66: (ATWT - Nuke Tent)
Title: Nuke Epilogue, in Script Format
Rating: PG
Characters: Luke/Noah, Lucinda, various other Snyders, Reid mentioned in passing
Notes: Written for As the World Turns writer Susan Dansby's online soap opera writing class, so it's in script format. Her prompts are at the end, so you're not spoiled. Warning, they're crazy and all over the place, but she did consider Nuke endgame. I saw it as a challenge to follow them but still keep Luke and Noah acting like themselves. And it was a challenge! Also, we were supposed to adhere to page limits, so I had to limit the length of scenes and conversations. There was really so much more the boys had to say to each other!
Warnings: Too self-aware for its own good. Pointless, manufactured angst (including mention of a character death). Enough plot for 6 months of episodes. Lots of references to past events. Sarcasm. Schmoop. A happy ending they deserved.

Abortion not seen linked with depression:
No high-quality study done to date can document that having an abortion causes psychological distress, or a "post-abortion syndrome," and efforts to show it does occur appear to be politically motivated, U.S. researchers said on Thursday.

You Californians still have to vote. Make sure you vote NO on prop 8!

mcjoan on DailyKos says:
I just got word from the folks at Calitics that "polling locations deserted in key areas for us" on Prop 8.

Folks, if you are in California, or if you have friends and family there opposed to Prop 8, urge them to keep on voting.

South Dakota defeated the horrible abortion ban.

Colorado defeated their anti-abortion initiative.

Keep up that momentum and don't let California institutionalize discrimination.

You Are Oscar the Grouch

Grumpy and grouchy, you aren't just pessimistic. You revel in your pessimism.

You are usually feeling: Unhappy. Unless it's rainy outside, and even then you know the foul weather won't last.

You are famous for: Being mean yet lovable. And you hate the lovable part.

How you life your life: As a slob. But it's not repelling as many people as you'd like!

Wednesday's Gossip Girl I enjoyed even more than the premiere. There was a bit of humor, mostly from Dan...I guess he's supposed to be the Seth Cohen character--pining for a girl out of his league. Read more... )

Desperate Housewives kind of annoyed me even though it had its funny moments. I don't know why, really, since all of my objections regarding last season's finale were at least sort of addressed. Read more... )

I don't know how many of you like electronica/dance music, but there's a free podcast on iTunes called PodRunner: nonstop, fixed-BPM, hour-long mixes from DJ Steve Boyett. I've downloaded a few so far and worked out to one last weekend and it was tons of fun. A 140 BPM mix seemed like a good rate for the eliptical trainer for me, but I might try a little higher today.

Oh, while I'm on the subject of music, this is probably a long shot, but does anyone have a copy of "Tarzan Boy" by Baltimora?
vertigo66: (The O.C. - Ryan and Seth)
Oh, I forgot to post about Gossip Girl, which I watched last night. I liked it, but I didn't think there was enough humor. The show needs a Seth Cohen. ;) The Dan character was amusing but he and his "dad" look more like brothers. Read more... )

Michael Cassidy is going to be on Smallville? OMG it's a dream come true! Between him, Justin Hartley, and Tom, my shirts will be covered in drool. Then Jensen's on at nine. It's too much hotness for one evening.

Sneak peek of tomorrow's Nuke. I think I'm in love with Luke. Srsly. But Noah's really being annoying and I'm wondering if Luke even feels anything for him anymore.
vertigo66: (Nip/Tuck - Almost Kiss)
GOP front-runner or Buffy villain? He's going to look so presidential up there next to Hillary, Obama, or Edwards, dontcha know.

Hey, don't forget to vote in the Tubeys at Television Without Pity. Voting goes a lot faster now that there are only 10 nominees per category. Make sure you at least vote for Sean and Christian for best Hoyay! moment. I voted for Jensen as my favorite actor and Logan and Veronica as worst couple. Ha. I think I voted for Sam and Dean for best relationship. And I made a point of always voting for Lana/KK in every "worst" category she was in, even though she didn't annoy me nearly as much this past year. But it's the principle of the thing. :P
