Title: Nuke Epilogue, in Script Format
Rating: PG
Characters: Luke/Noah, Lucinda, various other Snyders, Reid mentioned in passing
Notes: Written for As the World Turns writer Susan Dansby's online soap opera writing class, so it's in script format. Her prompts are at the end, so you're not spoiled. Warning, they're crazy and all over the place, but she did consider Nuke endgame. I saw it as a challenge to follow them but still keep Luke and Noah acting like themselves. And it was a challenge! Also, we were supposed to adhere to page limits, so I had to limit the length of scenes and conversations. There was really so much more the boys had to say to each other!
Warnings: Too self-aware for its own good. Pointless, manufactured angst (including mention of a character death). Enough plot for 6 months of episodes. Lots of references to past events. Sarcasm. Schmoop. A happy ending they deserved.
PROLOGUE.
FADE IN:
LILY’S LIVING ROOM
LUCINDA
There you are, young man. I have been looking for you. Where is the next chapter of my book? I know you’re busy with the Foundation and Grimaldi Shipping but my publisher is getting antsy for a draft.
LUKE
I tried to work on it, Grandmother, but I really don’t want to read about your sexcapades, let alone help you write them. Do you really want Dr. Dixon to read about all of your past lovers?
LUCINDA
It’s totally natural, darling, just the birds and the bees! The readers of my memoir deserve to read about the real me and besides, John is the star of the chapter. Consider this payback for the time I heard you and your young man going at it once. That’s when I knew I had to move back home after my cancer surgery.
LUKE
(EMBARRASSED) You overheard Noah and me having sex?
LUCINDA
No need to be embarrassed, my dear boy--it sounded just fabulous!
FAITH
Ugh, this is the most disturbing thing I’ve ever heard from this family, and that is saying a lot.
LILY
Mother! How could you listen in on the boys having sex…and not tell me about it? (QUIETLY) So what was it like?
LUKE
I’m sorry, but my mother and grandmother talking about my sex life is creepy and disturbing. What’s even more disturbing is that I don’t actually have a sex life right now to talk about but my grandmother does.
LILY
Mother, how about we get some coffee in the kitchen? We can talk some more.
LUCINDA
Oh, that would be lovely, dear. (LUCINDA AND LILY EXIT)
FAITH
As much I’d love to stay and get even more grossed out, Parker wants me to meet him at Al’s. I’m out of here. (EXITS)
LUKE
Even Faith’s love life is better than mine--everyone is paired up and happy but me. I miss Noah so much.
HOLDEN
Are just missing being in a relationship, or do you really miss Noah?
LUKE
I really miss Noah being in my day-to-day life. I miss hanging out with him at Java and watching movies with him and living and planning our life together. And the amazing se (x)* — um, I mean, ice cream. (WISTFULLY) He really did serve up the most fantastic double mocha chip ever.
HOLDEN
I wonder if it’s time for you to let Noah know how you feel. Tell him how much you miss him--maybe he misses you and that ice cream just as much.
LUKE
Noah always said I’d have a place in L.A. with him but maybe he’s moved on now and he’s too afraid to say anything in our emails and phone calls. Or maybe if I did say something he would think I’m just lonely, like you just did.
HOLDEN
I’ve gotten to know Noah pretty well these past few years and I know he will always love and want you. That kind of love comes only once in a lifetime and it’s the kind of love your mother and I have. That’s why we’re remarrying. Again. Look, Noah never gave up on you, not when you were in that wheelchair and not while you two were separated and you were with someone else, so don’t give up on him. Go to Noah and tell him how you feel.
LUKE
Maybe you’re right… (LUKE’S PHONE RINGS) Oh, it’s a hospital… Hello? Yes, I know Noah… Oh my God. (HANGS UP) Noah’s been in a car accident!
* SD said often they put what the characters were going to say in parentheses so the actors know what the characters are thinking
ACT I.
FADE IN:
NOAH HOSPITAL ROOM WITH CORRIDOR
(LUKE WALKS DOWN CORRIDOR SLOWLY AS HE REMEMBERS SEEING REID IN THE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL BED AFTER HIS ACCIDENT. LUKE OPENS THE DOOR SLOWLY, AFRAID OF WHAT HE’LL SEE INSIDE. NOAH IS SITTING ON THE BED, DRESSED, LOOKING AT HIS PHONE IN HIS HAND.)
LUKE
Noah!
NOAH
(STANDING) Luke! Oh, thank God. I’m so glad you’re okay! (THEY HUG.)
LUKE
(PUZZLED) I’m fine! But what about you? You’re shaking, baby! The hospital called me and told me you were in an accident, that you were shot and unconscious!
NOAH
It’s nothing, just a scratch. They didn’t need to call you. But I’m so glad you’re here. I’ve been so worried about you, trying to get in touch with you! I even talked to your mom but she said she couldn’t get through to you either!
LUKE
Oh, yeah, my phone is dead. Remember how I would never charge it and no one could get in touch with me? I haven’t changed! I rushed out of the house when I got the news you’d been hurt! I was so worried, after the way we left things, the thought of something happening to you before I could tell you that I…that I… Wait, so why were you worried about me?
NOAH
It’s my dad. He escaped from prison, Luke. They just called a little while ago. No one knows where he is. I had visions of him trying to hurt you again…and I couldn’t stop thinking that maybe the Gala was the last time I was ever going to see you and I didn’t want us to end like that. And when I couldn’t reach you by phone…I thought maybe he got to you already. I don’t know what I’d do if my father hurt you again.
LUKE
Well, you’re fine now and I’m fine now. You are fine, right, baby? You’d tell me if something were wrong?
NOAH
Yes, the doctor told me I could go. But wait, you said you’re fine now? What did you mean by that, Luke?
LUKE
If the Colonel is loose, shouldn’t we be getting out of here?
NOAH
Okay, yeah. I think I know a place we can go.
ACT II.
FADE IN:
BEACH HOUSE WITH EXTERIOR
(LUKE AND NOAH STANDING OUTSIDE AS NOAH FUMBLES WITH THE KEYS)
LUKE
What is this place, Noah? It’s gorgeous. I thought you told me you lived in a tiny apartment.
NOAH
(OPENING DOOR) I do, this is just my producer’s house. There’s a studio in here so I can come and work on my film whenever I need to. Sometimes I spend more time here than I do at my own apartment.
LUKE
Are you still working on your documentary about gay marriage? I loved that you were working on a film about couples getting married after Prop 8 was overturned.
NOAH
Yes, we’re putting the finishing touches on the film—we might have to do a couple of reshoots but we’re getting there. You and I should be safe here. There’s no way my dad could know about this place, unless…
LUKE
What?
NOAH
Oh nothing...never mind. So what happened? You said you were fine, “now.” Was it your kidney, is it failing?
LUKE
No, my kidney is fine. I just…it looks like I was poisoned.
NOAH
(ALARMED) Poisoned? When? Why didn’t you tell me?
LUKE
I didn’t want you to worry. It just happened a couple of weeks ago. Margo and I are convinced Damian’s enemies are involved. And…the truth is I thought maybe you’d moved on already and I didn’t want to draw you back into my life with my drama. If we came back together I wanted it to be because we lo—I mean, for the right reasons, not because of some random drama.
NOAH
Is that why you didn’t call me about Emma’s death, and I had to hear about it from Holden when it was too late for me to make it back to the funeral?
LUKE
Noah, I am so sorry about that, you have no idea. I was so wrapped up in my own feelings that I didn’t even think about yours. My emotions were all over the place and I was feeling very vulnerable—missing my grandmother and missing you. I didn’t want you to come to the funeral because I knew what would happen if I saw you then. I wouldn’t have wanted to be alone and I didn’t want you to think I only wanted you because I was grieving and lonely, because that wouldn’t have been true. But when the grief eased up a bit, I realized how awful I must have seemed to you.
NOAH
She was the closest thing to a grandmother I’ve ever had, Luke. I missed a chance to mourn for her with other people who loved her. I never really got to say goodbye. Sometimes I think about the oatmeal raisin cookies she made for me and then I have to remember I’ll never have them again.
LUKE
I know, Noah. I know. There’s nothing I want more than to try to make it up to you for…everything, if that’s even possible. Noah, you have to know I was planning to come out here to see you anyway. I’m sorry it had to be under these circumstances but maybe it was the push I needed to come see you. I was worried about coming here. I didn’t know if after all we’ve been through you’d finally given up on me and moved on and I was afraid to ask. We haven’t talked much lately; there just seems so much distance between us now. Even before the funeral, at the Gala, things were strained.
NOAH
You pulled back from me first, Luke.
(CLIFF, ATTRACTIVE SLIGHTLY OLDER MAN, ENTERS)
CLIFF
I thought I heard voices! Noah, how are you? I heard about the accident, why aren’t you still in the hospital?
NOAH
They told me I could go—hospitals are for people who get hit by trains, not people who get shot during car accidents! Uh, Cliff Wycroft, I want you to meet Luke Snyder. He flew in from Oakdale to see how I was doing.
CLIFF
(SHAKES HANDS WITH LUKE) Nice to meet you, Luke. But Noah, what are you doing here, shouldn’t you be home resting?
NOAH
About that…it’s a long story but my father is insane and he’s escaped from prison where he’s serving time for murder. The last person he tried to kill was Luke so I’m a little scared for him right now. I hate to bring you into this but I panicked and this is the only place I could think of offhand that he would never be able to find us. I know this would be a huge favor and the biggest imposition ever but I hope it’s all right if we lay low here for a while.
CLIFF
Yeah, sure. How many times have I told you that my house is your house, Noah? Crazy father, eh? Do you think this could be made into a screenplay somehow? We’ll have to talk more about this later. (CLAPS HIM ON THE BACK AS LUKE LOOKS ON, JEALOUS. CLIFF’S PHONE RINGS, CLIFF LOOKS AT WHO’S CALLING.) Oh, excuse me, guys, I’ve got to take this. Make yourself at home. (CLIFF TALKS AS HE WALKS AWAY) Hey, Jude, thanks for getting back to me. (LEAVES ROOM)
LUKE
(SNIPPILY) So sometimes you’re here more than you are at your own apartment? Cliff’s house is YOUR house? And while I’m asking, what about Aidan? Is he just another one of your Hollywood flings?
NOAH
Aidan?
CUT TO FLASHBACK:
Neurology Wing, Gala for Neurology Wing Opening, Hospital corridor with couch.
LUKE
Thanks for coming to the Gala, Noah.
NOAH
I know how much the new neurology wing means to you. You’ve put so much of your heart into it. I wouldn’t have missed this for the world.
LUKE
I’m so glad you came. These past few months have been so busy for me but I have to admit I miss having you around. But you’re probably so busy with all your Hollywood parties to think about Oakdale very much.
NOAH
Are you kidding? I miss you—and you know, your family--like crazy. My producer insists on taking me to parties to network but you know I’ve never been into that scene. I feel so awkward—you were always the one so good with people. Having you there with me would make it almost bearable. I’m just glad I could be here for you tonight.
LUKE
Well, thanks for coming. I actually have a little surprise for you. I know you always wanted me to get back to my writing, and I am! I’m helping Grandmother write her memoir. We’re just getting started.
NOAH
Luke, I’m so happy for you! (GRABS LUKE INTO A TIGHT HUG)
LUKE
(INTO NOAH’S NECK, SLIGHTLY MUFFLED) I can’t wait for you to read it.
NOAH
(PULLING BACK) What about Reid?
LUKE
What?
NOAH
I thought you said Reid’s name.
LUKE
I was saying I wanted you to read Grandmother’s memoir. Maybe you could make it into an Oscar-winning film. Do you have Reid on the brain or something?
NOAH
I’m sorry, maybe I’m still a little sensitive about you-know-who. I mean, we’re at a Gala honoring his work on the new neuro wing. I guess he’s on my mind. I just can’t imagine how hard it must be for you to be here and be reminded of all those moments of your relationship.
LUKE
I’ll admit it was hard at first, but as time has passed it’s gotten easier. I’ve just been focusing on getting the wing done the way he would’ve wanted it, with a few creative touches of my own naturally, like teaming up with the Lakeview to house the families of patients here at reduced cost. (PAUSES) Noah, I know things are a little awkward between us right now but I feel like it wouldn’t take much to get us back into our…groove. Believe me, I’m only thinking of you--and me-- tonight. Preferably you and me together, alone. (THEY MOVE IN TO KISS EACH OTHER. NOAH TOUCHES LUKE’S FACE.) If this were one of your movies someone would interrupt us right now.
NOAH
If this were one of my movies I would have never let you go in the first place. (THEY KISS)
LUKE
Well, what do you say we get out of here, go somewhere private where we can work on that groove?
NOAH
Ahhh…that sounds perfect. Just let me get my coat from coat check and I’ll meet you back here.
LUKE
I’ll be waiting right here.
(NOAH EXITS. NOAH’S PHONE IN NOAH’S TUX JACKET ON THE COUCH CHIRPS/BEEPS BECAUSE OF AN INCOMING TEXT MESSAGE. LUKE WAVERS FOR A SECOND AND THEN TAKES IT OUT AND READS THE MESSAGE. IT’S A MESSAGE FROM “AIDAN” THAT SAYS “WE’RE ON FOR THE PALM SPRINGS RESORT NEXT WEEKEND. IT’S GOING TO BE EPIC.” LUKE PUTS THE PHONE BACK. NOAH RETURNS)
NOAH
Ready?
LUKE
Actually, maybe I’m not ready for this after all. We can’t just pick up where we left off like nothing’s happened. I’m sorry, Noah. (WALKS OFF, NOAH APPEARS CRUSHED AND CONFUSED)
NOAH
Luke?
CUT TO: BEACH HOUSE, PRESENT DAY
NOAH
We kissed at the Gala and were about to go somewhere private and then you said you weren’t ready after all. Because of Reid.
LUKE
I should have never let you believe it was because of Reid, because it wasn’t. But give me a break, Noah! By that point the man had been gone for months. I had already told you we hadn’t really shared much at all. Reid and I just started dating a few weeks before his death! I wasn’t going to spend months pining over someone I hardly knew. Of course I’m sad he’s gone but baby, the thought of never being with you again makes me feel like I can’t breathe.
NOAH
Then what happened? Why did you pull away?
LUKE
The truth is I was jealous.
NOAH
Jealous, of who?
LUKE
Does the name Aidan ring any bells?
ACT III.
FADE IN:
BEACH HOUSE INTERIOR
LUKE
Well? Who is Aidan?
NOAH
Aidan?
LUKE
The guy who sent you a text message at the Gala, saying you two were going to some resort?
NOAH
Not that I owe you an explanation, but Aidan did location scouting for my movie. Palm Springs is like a gay mecca and Aidan helped arrange for me to film weddings at one of the resorts. You really have no right to be jealous anyway--it’s not like I was seeing anyone behind your back!
LUKE
I didn’t start seeing Reid till after we broke up, Noah.
NOAH
A break-up engineered by your boyfriend. Reid told me he wanted you since the first time he saw you. And he did everything he could to break us up—telling me I needed my independence and that I couldn’t be with you, my only family, if I wanted to be treated. I was stupid and desperate and went along with it, instead of filing a complaint with the hospital like I should have. And then you ended up falling in love with him. I don’t know who comes off worse in this—me, the clueless chump, or you, the flighty man-child. But he got you and I got nothing.
LUKE
You got your sight back!
NOAH
That was his JOB. That doesn’t mean he gets my boyfriend as a prize for a job well done! So what, you just assumed I’d moved on to Aidan already, just a couple of months after I told you how much I still loved you? Like how you moved on to Reid so quickly?
LUKE
It wasn’t like that!
NOAH
And you thought I was out here going all Hollywood, going to parties and clubbing and having flings and hookups left and right? Do you know me at all? Look, couldn’t you have just asked me about Aidan at the Gala, instead of letting me think you still weren’t over Reid?
LUKE
I was scared, Noah, so scared that you’d already moved on! I didn’t want to--
NOAH
You didn’t want to feel the pain of knowing you were too late to get back the one thing you wanted more than anything? Yes, that really sucks, take it from me, I know all about it!
LUKE
How about wanting nothing but to help someone you love and being pushed away time and time again?
NOAH
I didn’t want to be a burden to you!
LUKE
You’d never be a burden! I loved you! I wanted to take care of you!
NOAH
Before I left for L.A., I asked you to come with me and you said we were never right for each other. What are you even doing here if you believe that? Has anything changed? Who am I kidding, you’d probably still be with Reid if he hadn’t died. Maybe you would’ve even slept with him by now!
LUKE
That’s a low blow, coming from the guy who made us wait to have sex!
NOAH
Right, it was all my fault--like how we just HAD to live at the farm in separate bedrooms when I wanted to get an apartment! The only place we could do anything was on that stupid porch, hoping your grandmother didn’t walk in on us!
LUKE
You loved living with my family! We could’ve done it in your huge truck or by the pond or at the farm when no one was home but you wanted it to be “special.” And then we ended up doing it when no one was home anyway!
NOAH
Your mom owns a hotel! You could’ve gotten us a room!
LUKE
You said you were happy we waited!
NOAH
I was just ecstatic that we’d finally done it!
LUKE
But then you didn’t want to have sex with me after the accident—to punish me!
NOAH
(MOVING CLOSER TO LUKE) No, no, no! I just couldn’t be with you knowing I wouldn’t get to see your face, or look into your eyes. (STARTS TOUCHING LUKE’S HAIR) You’re so beautiful and watching the pleasure on your face was always the most amazing thing ever, and I thought I was never going to experience it again.
LUKE
Oh my God, Noah. (THEY START KISSING PASSIONATELY AND TUGGING AT EACH OTHER’S CLOTHES, UNBUTTONING SHIRTS) I need to be alone with you right now. (THEY START WALKING TOWARDS THE BEDROOM WHEN THERE’S A KNOCK AT THE DOOR. LUKE AND NOAH JUMP AT THE SOUND.)
ACT IV.
FADE IN:
BEACH HOUSE INTERIOR
(KNOCKING AT DOOR CONTINUES)
LUKE
Do you think Cliff is expecting anyone?
NOAH
I don’t think so. (NOAH CAREFULLY LOOKS THROUGH THE PEEPHOLE) No one is there. Maybe they just left a package. (STARTS TO OPEN DOOR)
LUKE
Be careful!
NOAH
There’s no one there. (PICKS UP PACKAGE AND CLOSES DOOR TO REVEAL WINSTON STANDING BEHIND IT)
WINSTON
Hello, son. Still as careless as ever, I see.
NOAH
Dad! What are you doing here?
WINSTON
Noah, when I heard you’d gone blind it just about killed me. I’m sorry it took me so long to come for you.
LUKE
Colonel Mayer, Noah won’t be going with you! He’s got a life here and--
WINSTON
Hello, Luke. Last I heard you were seeing some guy my age. How easy it would’ve been to get you out of my son’s life, if I’d only known back then that you go for older men. (LEERS) 20/20 hindsight, eh? (SHRUGS) I was thrilled to hear you were out of my son’s life for good, or so I thought. But here you are, interfering again!
LUKE
I just got here!
WINSTON
Your father’s enemies have been here for a while now, stalking my son, and using him to get to you! After they shot Noah and made his car go off the road I knew I had to do something. I called 911 for you, Noah, and watched as they followed you to the hospital and then followed the both of you here. I broke their necks as they attempted to get in. You’re welcome, by the way, Luke.
NOAH
Dad, I am not going with you.
LUKE
Colonel Mayer, I can’t let you take Noah. I... I...
WINSTON
Oh, not this again. I know, (MOCKING) you love my gay son. Can’t I have one conversation with my son without you around? Don’t me make me regret killing those guys, Luke. Noah, I want us to be a family again. I have so much to teach you. We can get Ameera and go anywhere.
NOAH
I’m not leaving with you.
WINSTON
(GRABS LUKE, HOLDS GUN TO HIS HEAD)
You’d come with me if I had Luke, wouldn’t you? He’s still got some sort of hold on you, I know.
NOAH
Dad!
WINSTON
Call Ameera, tell her to meet us here.
NOAH
Okay, okay! Just don’t hurt Luke. (LUKE AND NOAH NOD IMPERCEPTIBLY TO EACH OTHER, NOAH MAKES A SHOW OF DIALING AND THEN DROPPING THE PHONE, BENDS TO PICK IT UP AS LUKE ELBOWS WINSTON IN THE RIBS AND NOAH GRABS HIS GUN AND POINTS IT AT WINSTON)
NOAH
Hold it right there, Dad. I know how to use this—you made sure of that.
WINSTON
Son, I’m not going back to that cell. I’ll leave you alone. Just let me go. You wouldn’t shoot your father.
NOAH
Try me, Dad.
CLIFF
(RUNS IN) I called the cops, Noah. (NOAH STARTS TO SWAY, UNSTEADY ON HIS FEET)
LUKE
Noah, what’s wrong?
NOAH
I just have to sit down for a minute. I’ll be fine.
CLIFF
Give me the gun. I’ll keep an eye on the colonel. (CLIFF TAKES GUN FROM NOAH, TRAINS IT ON WINSTON)
LUKE
(SEES BLOOD ON NOAH’S SHIRT) Noah, you’re bleeding! You lied to me about being okay—you should’ve never left the hospital! (HELPS NOAH SIT)
NOAH
(URGENTLY) I had to keep you safe, Luke. You have to go home, for all we know there’s someone else out there ready to hurt you and I can’t take care of you while I’m like this.
LUKE
I’m not leaving you.
NOAH
You have to! I’d never forgive myself if something happened to you. Please, go home to your family and the Oakdale PD. They’ll keep you safe. Just until this is all over and we’re sure Damian’s enemies aren’t still after you! (BEGIN TO HEAR SIRENS)
LUKE
But they hurt you to get to me! They could hurt you again!
NOAH
They won’t. Promise me you’ll go home, promise! I can’t leave you until you do. (SIRENS GET LOUDER)
LUKE
You have to go back to the hospital. Okay, baby, I’ll go. Noah… (HOLDS NOAH’S HAND, WANTS TO SAY “I LOVE YOU”)
NOAH
I know, Luke. Same here. (THEY HOLD HANDS BRIEFLY BEFORE LUKE RELUCTANTLY WALKS SLOWLY AWAY, AS SIRENS CON’T)
ACT V.
FADE IN:
SNYDER POND
LUKE
(THROWING ROCKS IN POND) I should have never left Noah alone in L.A.
LILY
(SITTING ON BLANKET) Honey, you really didn’t have a choice. He begged you to leave. He’s got friends there and he’s healing fine. Damian’s enemies in Malta have been arrested so you could go back out to see him now. (LOOKS BEYOND LUKE, SMILES) Or, he could come to see you. (GESTURES BEHIND LUKE AS NOAH WALKS TOWARD THEM)
LUKE
Noah! (RUNS TO NOAH AND THEY HUG. THEY HOLD EACH OTHER FOR A BEAT) Should you be traveling so soon?
NOAH
Lucinda sent the Walsh jet for me. I think she has a bit of an agenda.
LUKE
Best grandmother ever.
LILY
Noah, it’s so wonderful to see you. (HUGS NOAH) I’ll give you two some time and see you back at the house.
LUKE
Thanks, Mom. (LILY EXITS, LUKE AND NOAH SIT ON THE BLANKET, LOOKING OUT OVER THE WATER.) So, how long are you here for?
NOAH
It’s open-ended. The work on my film is winding down so I can stay for a while, maybe even…move back here.
LUKE
(SURPRISED) But what about your life in L.A.?
NOAH
You’re my life, Luke. Do you remember how happy we were before the accident, Luke? So happy. But when I was blind, I couldn’t take care of you anymore. I thought I needed to learn to be independent so I could be a man you’d want to be with.
LUKE
All I wanted to do when you were blind was take care of you. I wish you could have let me. I wish you could have trusted that there by your side was the only place I wanted to be.
NOAH
I know I screwed up. I wish I could promise never to screw up again.
LUKE
I really messed up, I know that too. But I want to try again.
NOAH
(TURNS TO LUKE) So do I, so much. You’re the only one for me, Luke. There hasn’t been anyone else and there never will.
LUKE
(TURNS TO NOAH) What you said to me in L.A.--maybe I would still be with Reid if he hadn’t died, but I know it wouldn’t have lasted. His death made me grow up and realize what I had with you only comes around once in a lifetime, if ever. I love you, Noah. I never stopped loving you and I never will.
NOAH
I love you too, so much. (THEY SWEETLY KISS)
LUKE
So, Mr. hot-shot Hollywood director, how would you end this love story?
NOAH
You’re the writer, Luke. What do you think?
LUKE
There are so many ways to go. We could walk into the sunset together.
NOAH
A bit cliché but it’s tried and true.
LUKE
Or, one of us could get down on one knee and propose.
NOAH
(CONSIDERS) I could see that happening in the sequel. But not yet.
LUKE
We could jet off to Europe for the summer.
NOAH
How very “Say Anything.” Tempting.
LUKE
Maybe what we need is not an ending, but a new beginning. A do-over. Is that even possible?
NOAH
I don't know if I can.
LUKE
Me neither. That's one more thing we have in common.
NOAH
I can try.
LUKE
Me, too. (CLEARS THROAT) What kind of idiot turns his cell phone off on the first day of work?
NOAH
This kind of idiot. Hi, I’m Noah Mayer. (STICKS HAND OUT, LUKE SHAKES NOAH’S HAND, NOAH LAUGHS) A do-over might take some time.
LUKE
Well, time…(KISSES NOAH'S HAND) time is what I have. But…(SEXILY) we don’t have to wait for everything again, do we?
NOAH
What do you think? (PULLS LUKE CLOSE AS THEY START KISSING PASSIONATELY AND LOWERING TO THE BLANKET)
The End.
This is the outline of how the epilogue was supposed to go, more or less, with input from fans, which apparently included a fair number of anybody-but-Noahs:
The episode starts out with Lukethrowing a hissy fit upset because everyone's paired up and happy except him, though of course running the foundation, being the head of Grimaldi Shipping, and writing Lucinda's memoirs are keeping him very busy. He'd been thinking of going out to see Noah and getting back together with him but he's afraid Noah's moved on. He's talking it over with Holden when a hospital in LA calls to tell him Noah's been shot and in a car accident! I should note that it was totally Susan Dansby's idea that Luke is totally pining for Noah here and that Reid is not in the picture at all. She did see Nuke as endgame.
Act 1 starts with Luke getting to the LA hospital and walking towards Noah's room as he remembers Reid's death. In Noah's room Luke discovers that Noah is okay and that Noah's dad has escaped from prison (or some other bad guy is looking for them) so they need to find somewhere to hide out till the threat is over. And oh by the way, Luke was poisoned, presumably by Damian's enemies or whatever but that's not important now. To hide out, the guys go to a beach house owned by Cliff Wycroft, a guy who might be involved with Noah. Cliff's older and a lot like Reid, and Luke doesn't like him. Oh noes!
Then we flashback to the Epic Gala for the Neurology Wing, Brainchild of the Genius Dr. Oliver, where the boys seemed like they were getting closer until yet another misunderstanding/argument kept them apart, making the audience beg for more. Luke said Reid's name at an inappropriate time and found out Noah was seeing some guy named Aidan, so Luke was too jealous to re-consummate their relationship. Noah went back to L.A. brokenhearted.
Oh, and after that but before Luke's trip to L.A., Emma died but Noah didn't come to the funeral, further demonstrating how utterly selfish Noah is. Somewhere in there Noah was going all Hollywood and having flings and hookups right and left, in between his flings and hookups with up-and-coming bad boy Aidan and skeevy geezer Cliff. So by the time of Noah's car accident/shooting, the boys are not in a good place, and they get down and dirty in an argument about Reid at Cliff’s beach house.
The bad guys catch up with Luke and Noah at the beach house and the boys, working together eliminate the threat, but Luke and Noah heartbreakingly separate without anything being settled between them.
Then the end is the boys meet up at Snyder Pond and have a reunion that may or may not involve these lines (provided by SD, it was up to us to include them or not):
Noah: I don't know if I can.
Luke: Me neither. That's one more thing we have in common.
Noah: I can try.
Luke: Me, too.
Noah: It may take some time.
Luke: Well, time… (KISSES NOAH'S HAND) time is what I have.
Hopefully you enjoyed my interpretation. :D
NOAH
They told me I could go
The episode starts out with Luke
