I'm sorry you didn't like it! You make a good point about it being a lot more actiony and a lot less thinky than the originals. I like actiony SF as well as thinky SF pretty much equally (so long as neither translates to apocalyptic and/or depressing SF), so I didn't even think about that.
I'm really enjoying reading the thoughts of people who did and did not like it; the reasons are varied and interesting almost across the board.
